Welcome to the château
Experience your most beautiful moments in a place that has a soul!
A journey where history, dreams and the art of living meet to inspire, unite and celebrate.
The Château de Scalibert is much more than a historic residence. Here, every stone, every room, every object tells a story, inviting you to travel and share. Completely renovated to host your family celebrations, weekends with friends, and professional seminars, the Château team also offers, according to the seasons and their inspiration, various events based on a simple concept: “mind, body, and heart.”
Conceived as a true family home, with its living spaces, areas for sharing and celebrating, as well as its more intimate retreats perfect for reading or daydreaming, each room will reveal a part of the castle’s soul through its inspiring works of art, locally sourced objects, and souvenirs from far-off travels. You can enjoy a welcoming, professional open-plan kitchen, several lounges, a historic reception room, and for more playful moments, a billiard room and a magnificent piano inviting you to play a tune.
The Château de Scalibert estate is nestled in the heart of the Tarn region, surrounded by its rich and unspoiled natural beauty. Spanning 17 hectares, with vast wooded areas and verdant gardens, this haven of absolute tranquility offers a true sanctuary for rejuvenation. The magnificent neo-Gothic chapel also provides a place of serenity. The outdoor spaces offer a multitude of possibilities for private ceremonies, team-building activities, or simply moments of pure relaxation with your loved one, family, or friends.
The Soul of the Castle
More than a place, an experience
The Château de Scalibert, as you will discover it today, is the fruit of a rich history, of course, but also of the audacious dream of its current owner and the inspiration of an entire team who worked on its renovation, driven by the desire:
To offer a place of “lives,” a place where moments and emotions are shared, a place where bonds are forged and strengthened;
To celebrate openness to others through the echoes of travel, art, and the art of living, a place where curiosity is awakened, a place of inspiration;
To pay tribute to the visionary women who infused the place with their creativity, their shared legacy making Scalibert a place where women’s history resonates;
To preserve a haven in harmony with Nature, with an eco-responsible approach, a place attuned to its environment, a place where people come and return to soak up positive energy.
It is this spirit that we invite you to discover and experience.
We are here to listen to you and imagine together the event that will mark your visit.
History of the chateau
The Château de Scalibert is a place of memory and transformation, deeply rooted in the history of the Tarn region. Its name originates from a small stream that joins the Agout River in the valley on which it stands.
The exact date of its initial construction is unknown. The first documented traces date back to the late 16th century, a period during which Scalibert was likely destroyed during the religious conflicts between Catholics and Protestants.
Its “known” history begins in 1744, the date engraved at the castle’s entrance, which corresponds to the time of its reconstruction. The grand stone staircase, adorned with a wrought-iron railing—a testament to the craftsmanship of the era—and the addition of a first floor date from this period.
The Era of Great Transformations
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Scalibert underwent further major transformations under the impetus of Madame Charlotte Zoé Prud’homme de Saint-Maur, Baroness de Clauzade de Scalibert. A visionary and enterprising woman, she profoundly shaped the identity of the estate with:
Around 1850, the addition of a second floor to the main building and the construction of all the outbuildings: stables, barns, workshops, and an orangery.
Then, in 1905, the construction of the magnificent Neo-Gothic chapel adjoining the château.
The Baroness’s influence extended even beyond the château itself with:
The bridge connecting Teyssode, where the château is located, to Saint-Paul-Cap-de-Joux, creating a long promenade immortalized on old postcards.
The funding of several projects for the Church of Saint-Paul-Cap-de-Joux.
She died in her castle on May 17, 1907. Her descendants succeeded one another there for eight generations, until its first sale in 1965.
A new feminine impetus”
From the 1980s onwards, the château remained uninhabited for many years. Then, on December 27, 2019, Château de Scalibert embarked on a new chapter. On that day, an unexpected encounter brought Sabine, the current owner, a true “love at first sight” for this place steeped in history. Five years of intensive renovations followed, carried out with the invaluable support of her friends and family, transforming Scalibert into a welcoming “home,” which is now open to you, to celebrate life and write new stories.

Merci Sabine ! -
