Joséphine
The New York Suite…the city of a thousand faces, the one that never sleeps…the city of musicals…from West Side Story to Marilyn Monroe…a face of a thousand ethnic colors…we went there several times…alone, in pairs, even as a group of seven, like a summer camp…strolling through every street of Manhattan or Greenwich Village…gazing up at the skyscrapers…the city of Liberty…intimately represented by Josephine Baker, artist but also French-American resistance fighter and activist. Upon her induction into the Panthéon on November 30, 2021, she became the first Black woman to receive this honor. Honoring her in this way was therefore a natural step.
